JALALABAD, Afghanistan — A young man was killed and another wounded during an armed dispute within a family over land inheritance in Nangarhar Province, local sources said Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday, May 5, in the Dobeli area of Behsud District, where a family argument reportedly escalated into violence.
According to residents, the victim, identified only as Bilal, was fatally shot, and his brother sustained injuries after a dispute with their maternal uncles over the division of inherited land.
“The brothers were arguing with their uncles over their mother’s inheritance rights when the shooting happened,” one local resident told Amu TV, requesting anonymity for safety reasons.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Taliban officials in Nangarhar had not commented on the incident.
Land and inheritance disputes are a recurring source of deadly violence in Afghanistan, where legal ambiguity, lack of land documentation, and weakened judicial structures often leave such conflicts unresolved. These disputes frequently turn violent in rural areas, where community elders or armed factions may act as de facto authorities.
